Many reviewers say this show as a whole is "overrated". Well, I'll respect their opinion, but I can't agree. But what everyone agrees on is the absolute devastating mastery on display in the Darkstar>Spanish Jam>US Blues. The transition into the USB makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. The Dead being the Dead. Absolutely amazing. Rest of the show is very strong as well (other than the self-indulgent Seastones...ouch). But, if you've only got about 20-30 minutes today, start at the Darkstar and let yourself go...

Facinating that the band played such a killer show at a Fronton!

Overrated? I cant comprehend that! The Dark Star> Spanish Jam> US Blues trifecta pays out big...

I am sure that Pablo the Pelota (a Latin Mr. Met-like mascot of the old place) must have really enjoyed it!! Sadly i could not find pictures of Pablo on the web. He used to show up at Marlins games with a few cesta-toting players who would wing pelota's into the stands That people is entertainment.

Seastones is an enduring testament to the musical adventurousness and soundscape sculpting genius of Philip Chapman Lesh. It is a sonic exploration into realms of experience previously unknown and unsuspected to the world of music. It is in fact somewhat like being made to stand beneath searchlights while being slapped repeatedly about the head with a large wet fish for an interminable length of time. Ouch indeed.

At least this one is substantially shorter than the one I stood through at Alexandra Palace later that year - for which mercy, much thanks. (45 minutes of Phil and Ned - no wonder I ended up the twisted individual I am today...)

Though I wasn't at the 'Ally Pally' for these gigs it was my regular haunt as a teenage roller skater a few years earlier. And I saw Led Zep there on in December '72 which was a good start to the Christmas party season.

You mean we were actually in the same building at the same time? Just as well I chose a palace for such an auspicious event !!!!!

Damn it, T4, I thought I was supposed to be the sarcastic one around here. Phil and Ned have a lot to answer for. You think we can set up a victims' group and demand compensation?

I'll post my claim through the child abuse letterbox.

I'll always remember the crowd rippling like a huge sea with a big haze of dope smoke hovering overhead and all the assorted hands waving bottles of Southern Comfort & Jack Daniels in the air.

And me, a mere schoolboy - now that's child abuse !!!!

Or was that the next night's Celine Dion show ?

Memory is starting to deteriorate after all those years.

Large wet fish indeed.

You had me going at the start of your post, but then nicely brought me back to reality with a fine display of Scottish/British sarcasm. Always nice to hear from you now and then. But given the recent political ranting around here I can understand your trepidation in commenting on anything (but I see that a well placed Strangelove reference still can entice you away from the sheep).

You can pretty much guarantee that I'll be on here every now and then making some stupid remark or other. I have to say that it's also good to see you making more regular forays from the compound. It's good for the forum dynamic y'know!

Hey, now that Squeaky is out of prison, maybe we can entice her to join our group. Now that would be some balance.

nice one... and just a few days before the epic WRS> 30min mind left body jam> US blues on dicks picks 12. It's interesting to compare how the segues differ.

Thanks for the link, very enjoyable. You are familiar with Flanders and Swann then - 'Follow me, follow down to the Hollow, and there let us wallow in glorious mud.'

For furthur wallowing just take a step back to the previous night (which I confess is my preferred of the two)
